Our Horses

At Bar None, we select for characteristics of disposition above all others. We raise quiet, intelligent horses that can think through new or challenging situations without reacting instinctively. Our horses keep their minds connected to their feet.

We are dedicated to preserving some of the old lines of the LU and Cross Ranches. We combine these with a few select bloodlines for even more athleticism and superior dispositions. The decisions behind the development of the Bar None horses are based on decades of observation as well as the expertise of some old-timers who have worked with Morgans for 50 years or more.

We raise horses that work well; they are easy to train and quick to please. We select for a quality that the old-timers call ‘sand’. This characteristic delivers the attitude, stamina, and endurance a horse will require to work long days in big, rough country.

Our mares must have these non-negotiable qualities in equal or greater measure than the sires. For this reason, all of the mares in our band have been put to work. We can provide first-hand assurance that their babies will grow up to be smart, cooperative horses—with sand.

The Grunden Ranch (GRM) Morgans were featured in an article entitled Harnessing the Heritage in Western Horseman, December 2020. Several of our gaited mares and our gaited stallion Mtn Edge Black Chrome are products of this phenomenal program. See the article here.
