Our History

by Harvey

Our first mares were Shawnee Lass, Ramul’s Princess, and Ramul’s Bay Comet. Shawnee Lass was 17 when we bought her. She had many foals for us before retiring at age 26. Shawnee Lass was the grand-dam of our superior black stallion S Bar B Pierre Noire.

Shawnee was an unusual mother. She would have her newborn foal up and walking within a few minutes. She kept that foal going from day to dark, seldom letting it rest. She was one of the best!

Ramul’s Princess died in August of 2003. What a grand lady she was. We cried when she died. We have purchased many more Morgans over the years and have good memories of every one.

We bought Bombo (then age 6) from our good friend Ramul Dvarshkis. Bombo was our stallion for several years, siring both Morgan and cross-bred foals.

Ramul & Bombo

Bombo was a family horse. We used him for everything. We broke him to drive both single and double, and used him to break other horses. He could be ridden or driven by child or adult alike; he was never hard to control. Bombo was one of the greatest horses we have owned. Interestingly, he seldom threw a filly; almost all of his foals were colts. The few fillies by Bombo were all very special.

Cody’s Curly was a colt by Bombo out of Shawnee Lass. At nine months old, he was broke to drive. The boys would hitch him to a little cart and drive all over our area. We put pony shoes on him and he wore them out! Cody’s Curly was driven as a team with Bombo. This team of stallions was a favorite with those who saw them.

When we came back to Wyoming in 1994 we began to look for a new stallion. We left Bombo in California; he had become too old to breed. A black Morgan was advertised over in the Lander-Riverton area. Ramul went with me one day to look at this horse. We found a four-year-old black stallion, nearly 16 hands tall, owned by an outfitter. The stallion was S Bar B Pierre Noire.

The outfitter had bought Pierre to cross with draft mares to get big horses for his hunting program. When we looked at Pierre’s pedigree, we saw that he was a grandson (on his dam side) of the first mare we bought, Shawnee Lass. His sire was H-Saracen by the famous Cross Ranch stallion Chingadero. We made the deal and that was the beginning of a great adventure.

S Bar B Pierre Noire was the first colt sired by H-Saracen. We found out that Pierre was a smoky black. At that time, few people around Thermopolis had seen any colorful Morgan horses.

The first mare we bred to Pierre was Ramuls Barby, one of the mares we’d purchased from Ramul Dvarishkis. Her foal was a beautiful palomino colt. I called Ramul and asked him to come see the foal, but I did not tell him what it was.

We walked to the corral together. When he looked in, Ramul was surprised. He said, “I never got anything like that!”

That was just the beginning of crosses to Pierre that produced buckskin and palomino foals. The percentage of colored Morgans produced by Pierre was very high. Pierre died at 19 in August of 2009. He is greatly missed.

Our Faith

Harvey was called into ministry when he was very young. He and Lois have spent their lives in service to the Lord in one way or another. As a young couple they worked together to establish new churches in Wyoming, Colorado, California, and Arizona.

Harvey has been pastor at First Baptist Church in Thermopolis, Wyoming since 1994. Please read his personal testament in Our Faith.

See also a conversation between a person who has found the Way to eternal life and his companion who only thinks he has [Grace Way], and a story about the Bar Non Brand, written by Harvey’s friend Don Bryan, the Cowboy Preacher.

We invite you to grab a cup of coffee and settle in. Read about the Seidel family, our faith, and the Morgan horses we love. We hope to hear from you; we are always excited to talk about walking with the Lord, and of course we welcome every chance to visit about our exceptional Morgan Horses.
